Eva Waldauf: About me

I'm an intense woman, traveller, avid gardener, cat lover, passionate cook, collage & painting instructor for adults and partner to a wonderful man. I swim in the ocean whenever possible. I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I sketch wildflowers, landscapes, oceanscapes and write poems when I travel. I'm an expressive mixed media artist, printmaker, painter and performance poet.

Who I am and what I do

I'm an imaginative, accomplished, educated visual artist of 39 years. I create surreal landscape prints, gorgeous whale, dolphin prints, nostalgic, romantic, heart & ocean collages & paintings of ocean beings, hearts & fantastic, mythic/spiritual figures. I work with/on handmade paper, wood, fabric, lace, buttons, natural objects, acrylic paint, ink, coloured pencil & photographs.

I display, sell in Vancouver & Toronto, at artist-run, commercial galleries & cultural centres. I've had a dozen solo/two person shows & shown in group shows for 35 years. I've shown across Canada & the US & have my art in several gallery collections.

I've taught acrylic painting & collage to adults for 10 years. I've curated art shows at Gallery Gachet, as Exhibition Chair, through AVA & Radha Yoga. I'm a supporting member of Federation of Canadian Artists & past member: Avenue for the Arts (AVA) & Gallery Gachet.

I'm a poet of 18 years. As a self taught performance poet, I sway, swivel my arms, dance my words on stage. I write poems of love, passion, dance, nature, healing, spirit & transformation. I've been a featured poet, reading my intense poems, in yearly events & reading series in Vancouver, New Westminster, Richmond & Burnaby.

I've had my love, nature, healing, art inspired & dream poems published in BC Anthologies & several poetry magazines. I have co-hosted & organized (with Carlos Joe Costa) Abundant Music & Word Fest, a monthly performance event 2012 - 2013. I've co-hosted Word Whips writing group on alternate months for a year & have filled in as co-hosted many times over the years. I'm a member & a Director of Pandora's Collective poetry & outreach group.

My History

Picture
I was born in Toronto, long ago, to strict Czech & German immigrants. I loved doodling instead of studying,  it's no surprise I desired to be an artist, despite negativity from family. I achieved my dream, finally was accepted to Ontario College of Art. In Experimental Department, I  learned weaving, printmaking, book binding, fabric dyeing, as well as sculpture, drawing and painting. I was in my first art show while still in OCA, where I met my 1st husband, Steve.

I  went on from there showing my art, creating the new, working where I could. I moved to Vancouver, with my husband, over 20 years ago. I went back to school at Simon Fraser University to get a BA in Art & Culture Studies. I  found I love to teach art to adults & taught part-time at Community Centres, Vancouver School Board & galleries, while working an non art jobs.  I've found I was good at Curating art shows at Gallery Gachet & elsewhere & continued creating, showing & selling my art.

In 2002 I was divorced and my life took a total downturn, losing everything; my love, art group, friends, financial stability, a good place to live/do art, teaching work, a space to show art & my health. I had to build my life up from nothing. I started a whole new style & form of collage and paintings, my broken heart series.

Luckily in my last year at SFU I tried something new, writing poetry. I put it aside, until I took an art & poetry workshop in 2001, that opened up my eyes to a new form of expression. Poetry, my new art, spiritual healing  & eventually new friends kept me going.

I kept writing poetry & eventually worked up the nerve to read in public. This led to where I'm at now. Juggling: writing poetry, performing poetry, getting published & creating art, being part of an art group, exhibiting in art shows, making some money between. It's not easy, but I'm now with my long term man, Larry, his love & stability helps. We've been together 7 years. My story continues...
